  4. Hello,
I am looking for any Pictures, stories, or any other information on my grandfather Avery Vainas. he was from Lowell, Mass. He was a member of the First Infantry 16th Reg. 3rd Battalion I believe. He received the Bronze Star for actions in Hamich, Germany. He recently passed away at the age of 94 and never liked to talk about the war. We had a very close relationship but still did not like to talk about it. I have always wanted to know more but respected his choice not to bring it up. Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Much thanks,

  5. I am researching a soldier with the same name as mine who died on Normandy Beach on D-Day. All I can find is this designation: Hall, John R., SGT, 16 INF 1 DIV, Company A. He was from Louisiana. Can anyone provide assistance? Thank you.

  6. My dad, Alden L. Peabody was 16th infantry, Company E 1943 to 1945, He was injured and spent months in Halloran Hospital in N.Y. Unfortunately, the records were lost and I never found out his injury. I do know, from papers I found, he received 2 bronze stars. He hardly ever talked about the war. He worked at the Bedford Ma. V.A. hospital for over 30 years,as a psychiatric nurse, until his death in1983. I want to find more info,if possible and would like to find out what patch he would have worn. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

  10. Thank you for your continued development of the history of the 16th. Truly enjoy reading and learning about WWII through this. I wrote back in 2014, but now I am digging a bit deeper into Dad’s military career. His name is SSGT Gordon S Cameron, was with Hq&Hq Co, 1st Battalion. He entered the service in Oct 1940 and discharged in June 1945. He was awarded the Silver Star for his actions on Jun 7, 1944, during the Normandy invasion (Omaha Beach), and I know he had the Bronze star as well, but don’t remember the rest of the awards, though had several oak leaf clusters for something(s). Could you please assist me with this, also if anyone knows of or has a list of his Regiment co-members, I would appreciate that too, and stories are always welcome! Thank you again for all you do to keep the memory of these dedicated men alive. And God bless all our troops, past, present, or future, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
