American Battle Monuments Commission Grave Adoption
The American Battle Monuments Commission operates and manages 24 U.S. military cemeteries located around the world. Five of those cemeteries are the final resting place for our heroes who were killed in action in Europe during World War II. They are : the Normandy Cemetery located at Colleville-sur-Mer, France: the Brittany Cemetery located at St. James (Manche), France; the Ardennes Cemetery located at Neupre, Belgium; the Netherlands Cemetery located at Margraten, Netherlands; and the Henri-Chapelle Cemetery located at Henri-Chapelle, Belgium.
A number of years ago, the ABMC began to allow citizens from France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and elsewhere, to formally “adopt” the grave of a U.S. soldier buried in these cemeteries. Each location has a private organization made up of local citizens who manage the program for their cemetery. In taking on this responsibility, the adoptors are requested to visit the grave site at least twice a year. They are encouraged to place flowers on the graves on special days such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day, and D-Day, etc.
Listed below are the names of the individuals that the Association has acquired who participate in the program. It is by far not complete because there are hundreds of these good citizens who have adopted the graves of 16th Infantrymen. This page is the 16th Infantry Regiment Association’s attempt to recognize and honor these wonderful people who have donated their time and money to ensure that our Regimental comrades in arms are not forgotten. If you know of an individual who has adopted a grave, or are yourself someone who has adopted a grave, please notify us so we can add you to the list. Contact:
